The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Afigya-Kwabre, Mr Kwaku Oppong-Kyekyeku Kaakyire, has urged the police to streamline its administration in the area to bring about greater operational efficiency.
He said the present arrangement where different parts of the district fall under different police district administrations, is problematic and does not make for smooth planning. Offinso, Tafo-Pankrono, Mamponteng and the Suame District Police Commands, have jurisdiction over separate areas of the district and this he said must change.
Making the call through the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Kodie, Mr Oppong-Kyekyeku suggested the upgrading of the Kodie station into a district police headquarters to end the partition.
Reporters of the national wire service had visited the area under STAR-Ghana’s media auditing and tracking of development projects, an initiative launched to put a spotlight on how government’s resources were helping to transform the lives of the people, particularly the rural population.
The goal is to aid transparency, promote accountability and good governance. Mr Oppong-Kyekyeku said security is a major priority of the assembly, given the fast growing population – helped by the steady drift of people, because of its proximity to Kumasi.
He said all manner of people keep streaming to the place and that they could not take anything for granted. This is why they have planned to build new police stations at Ankaase/Ejuratia, Maase/Brofoyedru, and Afrancho, to bring to eight, the number of police stations in the area.
The DCE said the expectation is that this would increase the number of police personnel there to fight crime and assure the people of adequate security protection. He commended the chief of Ahenkro, Nana Ahenkro Osei III, for donating a newly constructed two-storey building to the police.
