DCE Commissions electronic agriculture information centre

Hohoe (V/R) June 8, GNA – The Hohoe District Chief Executive, Mr James Komla Dogbe, on Tuesday cut the tape to commission an electronic commerce/Agricultural information centre at Hohoe.

At centre, which at the moment has two computers linked to the Internet could be accessed for information on Agriculture all over the world. It is supposed to benefit farmers and traders with well based marketing information services to increase market transparency.

The centre, which is part of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture electronic commerce project, started in 2000 and is supported by the International Institute of Communication and Development (IICD), an NGO based in the Netherlands.

The Hohoe centre is the third in the Volta Region; the two others are at Jasikan and Dabala in the South Tomgu District, with others coming up in Kpando, Kete Krachi and Nkwanta district.

Commissioning it, the DCE said the centre had come to fill a big vacuum since lack of information has made farmers, traders and investors lost modern trend.

He said a nation’s development was linked to its Agricultural practices, hence the importance of the centre.

Mr Dogbe hoped the centre would also help in the crusade to help curb the HIV/AIDS menace through the provision of information on health issues.

Ms Denis Clarke, the project manager for IICD, Ghana, said their NGO is being in Ghana for the past five years and has collaborated with MOFA in establishing information centres in nine districts in the country. She said, apart from MOFA, they also had projects, which include health education and good governance.

Mr Albert Agra, the Presiding member of the Hohoe District Assembly, who chaired the function urged the people in the district to put the centre into good use
