DCE calls for education of farmers on soils

Akropong-Akuapem, March 23, GNA – Dr (Mrs) Eugenia Danquah Quist, the Akuapem North District Chief Executive, has called on the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to educate farmers on the types of soil in the country and the crops that they could support.

Dr Quist was speaking at the opening of a one-day workshop for farmers, farmer-based organizations, agro-chemical dealers and agricultural extension officers in the Akuapem North District at Akropong on Tuesday.

She called on the ministry to engage the services of experts to teach farmers the herbal values of trees and food items found around them to help protect the health of farmers. Dr Quist said the district assembly was ready to release 50 acres of land at Kwamoso for the establishment of Sunflower farms on experimental basis.

Mr Gabriel George Assuman, the District Director of Agriculture, advised farmers to desist from using agro-chemical containers as food or animal feed containers.
