DCE bemoans bad road network in his District

Kalba (NR), Sept. 27, GNA – Mr. James Kipo Sunyehzi, Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District Chief Executive, has bemoaned the poor road network in the rural communities but said the government was committed to upgrading such infrastructure to alleviate the plight of the people. Mr. Sunyehzi expressed the concern at Kalba on Tuesday after his vehicle got stuck in a stream when he was returning from Baboarayiri, a farming community about 12 miles away.

The DCE was visiting the polling centres in the remote areas to ascertain problems facing the District level elections that ended successfully throughout the country on Tuesday. The pick-up on which he was travelling could not cross the “Boyiri” stream after a downpour and he had to take off his shirt to help push the vehicle from the stream.

The vehicle was however, pushed out of the stream after a five-hour of during which time voting had ended. The GNA correspondent who accompanied the DCE could therefore not file any report on the elections.

Mr. Sunyehzi said: “Something would surely be done about the poor condition of the roads in the district as the current state of the roads would affect future elections and the rural economy”.

Earlier, the DCE visited some polling stations in the Sawla and Tuna townships where turnout was low and urged the polling agents and security officials to be vigilant and apprehend any troublemaker. He said some polling stations could not be supervised due to their remoteness and inadequate personnel and called for measures to address the situation before any future elections.
