DCE appeals for peace and unity at Weija.

Accra, Nov. 12 GNA- Mr Samuel Nii Aryeetey Attoh, Ga District Chief Executive (DCE) on Wednesday appealed to the Ga Traditional Council to help in the enstoolment of a substantive and legitimate Chief for Weija. He said the enstoolment of a substantive and legitimate chief in the area would bring to rest, the protracted chieftaincy dispute that has engulfed the town for the past three years.

Mr. Attoh made the call at the inauguration of a 19-member Interim Management Committee (IMC) for the Weija Township at a ceremony in Weija, Accra.

The IMC, which has Mr. Boakye Yiadom, the Assemblyman for the area as its Chairman would oversee the day to day activities of the town until a substantive chief is installed.

He said conflicts impede the socio-economic development of the town since investors do not know who has the final authority in concessionary power.

Mr Attoh also appealed to the factions in the protracted dispute to smoke the peace pipe, adding, “I hope today’s inauguration will pave the way for a successor to the Stool”

He also urged the IMC to ensure that there is peace, stability and unity at Weija.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Danny Arthur Essuman, Crime officer for the Odorkor Police District said the police would not be part to any chieftaincy dispute in the area. He warned that the police have power to ensure peace in the country and would, therefore, not sit down for some people to create confusion and chaos in the area.

Mr Essuman urged the two factions in the dispute to ensure peace in the town and cautioned the IMC not to use the new opportunity given them to commit or foment trouble in the town.

The DCE also inaugurated a 15-member Unit Committee for the area.
