DCE advises people to turn a new leaf

Dormaa-Ahenkro, Dec. 31, GNA – Squadron Leader Benjamin Anane Asamoah (RTD), the Dormaa District Chief Executive, has deplored the apathetic attitude of residents of Dormaa-Ahenkro to public meetings and said such attitude could not accelerate the development of the town. He said this at the inauguration of two aqua privy 20-seat toilets valued at 548 million cedis for two suburbs of the town.

The DCE and his entourage arrived at the function only to find to their dismay that only the Assembly Members for the two beneficiary electoral areas were present with hundreds of empty plastic chairs staring at them.

Handing over the facility to the Assembly Members, Squadron Leader Asamoah noted that by their act, the supposed beneficiary communities had proved that they did not deserve the facility.

He said the construction of both toilets, funded with part of the assembly’s share of the HIPC fund, was a swift response to the cry of the people through their Assembly Members.

Squadron Leader Asamoah described the attitude of the people not only as damaging to the communal spirit in the electoral areas but also as unhealthy for other sister electoral areas in the town to emulate. He called on traditional authorities, religious and opinion leaders in the area to support programmes aimed at rekindling in the people the importance of public meetings and their numerous benefits. The Assembly members for the respective areas, Mr Kumi Acheaw and Mr Barclays Asamoah Yeboah, thanked the District Assembly for the facilities.
