Amasaman (G/A), Dec. 14, GNA – Mr. Raphael Demanya, the Acting District Chief Executive for Ga District at the weekend called on assembly members to educate their communities, especially the girls on the dangers of teenage pregnancy.
He noted that teenage pregnancy was on the increase in the communities and villages, saying most of the girls were not matured and therefore there was the tendency of abortion rate rising in the area. Mr. Demanya made the call when addressing a mock assembly held by selected schools in the Greater Accra Region at Amasaman in the Trobu-Amasaman Constituency.
The mock assembly discussed health issues such as adolescent-sexual reproductive health, teenage pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases (STD) and HIV/AIDS.
He observed that single-parenthood was to a large extent a contributory factor to teenage pregnancies in the communities and urged parents to discuss sexual matters with their children.
On HIV/AIDS, Mr. Demanya said, “to arrest this deadly heart-breaking killer at all cost, then it is necessary that our intervention should start from the home – which is controlled by the parents.”
Mr. Samuel Nii Aryeetey Attoh, NPP MP-elect for Trobu-Amasaman Constituency, who was the guest of honour appealed to the assembly members and departmental heads to take into consideration the issues addressed by the pupils.
