DCE advised chiefs to remain non-partisan

Donkorkrom, Oct 16, GNA – Mr Solomon Yaw Fordjour, the Afram Plains District Chief Executive, has appealed to chiefs to uphold their non-partisan position to enable them mobilize people of all political affiliations to undertake development projects. He said since chiefs were partners in development, they should support the government of the day to ensure effective implementation of development projects initiated by the government and the district assembly.

Mr Fordjour said this when 18 Anlo chiefs from the Dwarf Island on the Volta Lake paid a courtesy called on him at Donkorkrom on Friday and presented him with a royal hat and beads to honour him. Mr Fordjour said the government was aware of the agricultural potential in the Afram Plains and would provide infrastructure for local and foreign investors to undertake mechanized farming.

He said due to the non-payment of huge funds disbursed to individuals and groups under the Poverty Alleviation Fund, the assembly had stopped the disbursement of the fund to individuals and groups but rather use it to purchase tractors, outboard motors and gari processing machines for the area councils to be used by farmers and fishermen on hiring basis.

Togbe Senafu II, the President of the Council of Anlo Chiefs and chief of Senafu-Kofe, appealed to the DCE and the assembly to involve them in their activities to enhance development in the area since there had been a long neglect.

He said as chiefs, they would support the ruling government and enforce its policies and programmes to alleviate poverty of the people. The other chiefs included Togbe Yegbeh Blikisi of Adoglikofe, Togbe Kojo Hunugbe of Tokrokofe and Togbe Bobobi, chief of Abokyere.
