Days of galamseyers numbered – Affail Monney

President of the Ghana Journalists Association, (GJA) Mr. Affail Monney, has said galamsey has defied many solutions, rules and regulations orchestrated in an attempt to ban its operations.

In an interview on Eezy FM in Accra yesterday, Mr. Monney revealed that the Association has setup a steering committee to put together comprehensive strategies to be employed by the media to sustain the fight, maintain momentum and ensure that the fight against galamsey is eventually won.

According to him, there would be series of activities which will not be confined to only Accra, but in all the regions across the country, especially areas that have been affected by the galamsey activity.

He added that the media will take into account promises made by the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, John Peter Amewu, who gave a-three-week ultimatum to illegal miners to galamsey.

Speaking on behalf of the Private Newspaper Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG), Executive Secretary, Nii Laryea Sowah, noted that private media houses have a role to play against these galamseyers who have taken over “our lands illegally.”

He stated that as part of its campaign, the private media will put out adverts and billboards to educate the general public on the damage of galamsey on the environment.

He mentioned that there will be national radio and television programmes as part of the conscientisation process together with other auxiliary roles to be played by the private media.
