Dawhenya youth threaten demonstration against chief

The Bureau for Internal Affairs (BIA), a centre for intelligence gathering for public concern, on Tuesday called on the security agencies and the Kingmakers of Adden-Darpoh Royal Family of Dawhenya, over a potential land conflict.

The BIA said it had a copy of a petition by the youth against the sale of family lands by a chief (name withheld) to the Kingmakers and Principal Elders of Dawyenya.

A statement issued by the Bureau and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra quoted the petition in part: “We wish to put on record that Dawhenya lands are family lands and not stool lands therefore the Chief cannot sell Dawhenya lands without the consent of family members.”

The statement signed by Godfred Nkrumah, Co-ordinating Director of BIA said the wording of the petition by the youth, depicted a possible violent clash and so the earlier an action was taken the best it would be for national security and the protection of lives and property.

The petition threatened: “We are waiting for a reply from the Kingmakers and Principal Elders in two weeks else we would advice ourselves as future leaders of Dawhenya by demonstrating.”

“To the BIA the two weeks ultimatum and the anger that it depicts are worrying signs.”
