Datacenta Presents CD-ROM to Legon

DataCenta limited, an electronic publishing company and law firm has presented a CD-Rom containing the University of Ghana Law Journal (UGLJ) to the Faculty of Law.

Presenting it to the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Mr. Kojo Bentsi-Enchill, Director of DataCenta said DataCenta’s fundamental mission is to contribute to the improvement of Ghana’s legal information culture.

He said over the past eight years, DataCenta has been building a complete database of Ghana’s legal materials and has computerised over 70,000 pages of law. DataCenta has completed this task and is seeking approval from the Attorney-General’s Department and the Council for Law Reporting to publish the database and launch its website.

The DataCenta team said the completion of the Ghana Law Database on CD-Rom is the beginning and not the end. DataCenta is committed to maintaining the database, he said and will add new legal materials as they are published.

The Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Akua Kuenyehia who received the CD-Rom said it has come at the right time when the faculty is planning to network its library section so that reference making could be easy and time saving.

She announced that by the middle of next year the new building for the faculty would be completed and furnished with all the necessary IT facilities.

DataCenta has substantive experience in the computerisation of voluminous legal materials that is unrivalled in Ghana. Out on the market already are two electronic publications on CD-Rom – a Dictionary of Ghana Law and the UGLJ (1964-99).
