The Danish government is assessing the results of “Images of Denmark”, the Danish Cultural Festival recently held in Ghana, to see how best it could be replicated. The Festival, which was organised on a pilot basis, would be rotated among African countries if the results are found to be successful, Mrs. Birgit Storgaard Madsen, Danish Ambassador in Ghana told the GNA in an interview in Accra today. She denied speculations that it would be a periodic affair in Ghana but pointed out that “this does not mean Ghana will be neglected. Other activities would be held in Ghana to further strengthen our cultural relations.” Forty selected Danish artistes, craftsmen, writers and historians took part in the eight-day festival which included exhibitions, choral and jazz music, film shows and debates on the role of the press in promoting arts and culture, the importance of cultural policy to development and the slave trade. Apart from sharing of ideas and experiences between Ghanaian and Danish craftsmen during some of the workshops, one fact that emerged from the debates was the lax attitude of governments in promoting arts and culture. All the events were well patronised and according to Mrs. Madsen that was the immediate criteria to judge its success.
