Dangme East District Assembly to build teachers’ quarters.

Ada, June 13, GNA – the Dangme East Assembly is to build at least two teacher’s quarters in the district every year to ease teachers’ accommodation problems.

Mr Israel Narh Baako, Dangme East District Chief Executive who announced this at the District Education Oversight Committee meeting, said teachers do not stay in the district especially the remote areas due to lack of accommodation.

He said there were plans to build two quarters at Sege and Madavunu this year and that the district inaugurated two teachers’ quarters at Togbloku last December.

Mrs Regina Comfort Ametame of the Dangme East Educational Directorate, said some of the problems in the district were accommodation, transportation and lack of qualified teachers. She said even though the assembly sponsored students from the district to teacher training colleges with the agreement that they would teach in the district for three years after completion, beneficiaries have been giving flimsy excuses for not fulfilling their part of the agreement. Mrs Ametame urged residents in the district not to be hostile to teachers posted to the district but to support them.
