Dangme East DCE Supports Ada River Festival

The District Chief Executive of Dangme East District, Honourable Rex Daniel Wussah has pledged an unflinching support to sustain, promote and develop the River Festival of Ada in order to as well promote the growth of tourism in the district and the country as a whole.

Speaking to open the first of its kind in the country held at Ada on Easter Sunday April 24, the DCE said the district administration welcome the idea of a river festival in the area to add to the highly exciting Ada Asafotufiam festival. He pledged that the Dangme East District Assembly will liaise with the organizers of the river festival to make it an annual event in the district to augment the Asafotufiam festival which has been the only traditional festival in the district.

Mr. Wussah said he was overwhelmed by the response of the participants of the maiden edition of the river fest especially those who partook in the various activities and competitions. He has therefore called on all the stakeholders especially the Chiefs of Ada to embrace the river festival to help boost tourism in Ada which has river, sea and an estuary.

In addition, the DCE has revealed that the winners of the subsequent competitions of the festival will have the opportunity to travel to the United States to compete in the world canoe race under the assembly’s sponsorship. Mr. Nii Amu Wellington who was the MC of the opening ceremony in a closing remarks mentioned the Ada Estuary, the beautiful islands, the Songor Lagoon, the snake Zoo at Obonukope and the numerous Beach camps as few of the many attractive tourist sites in the district which if are well managed can help boost revenue generation and tourism in the district. Events at the maiden edition of the Ada River Fest included Dragon Boat Race, Swimming, Oyster mining, Miss Ada River Fest, River cruise,musical concert and many others.

The festival was witnessed by the paramount Chief of Ada Nene Abraham Kabu Akuaku (II) as well as Nene Tsatsu Pediator (IV), Chief of Kudzragbe Clan, who are the overlords of Ada lands and many other Divisional chiefs of Ada.

Also in attendance were the representatives from theMinistry of Tourism and expatriates from the Diaspora. The river fest will be celebrated in April of every year at Ada in the greater Accra Region of Ghana.Credit: Adzigodi Dennis Narterh
