Dan Botwe consoles family of landslide victims

Nyensi, (E/R), Oct. 10, GNA – Mr Dan Kwaku Botwe, New Patriotic Party Parliamentary Candidate for Okere, on Thursday visited the family of the three people who were killed by a landslide to console them. The three, Doris Yaa Asantewa, 73, Madam Beatrice Yaa Oforiwa, 55, and Kwasi Mantey, 3, were buried alive during a heavy downpour, which caused a landslide at Nyensi a farming community near Adukrom Akuapem on Monday.

Mr Dan Botwe who was in the United Kingdom with the NPP Flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, when the incident occurred arrived in the country on Wednesday only to hear about the unfortunate tragedy. He described the incident as disastrous and said the death of the three was not a loss to the family alone but the entire nation. Mr Botwe assured them of his personal maximum support and that of the government for the burial and funeral ceremonies. The spokesperson of the family, Mr Daniel Henaku, on behalf of the community appealed to government to consider a possible re-settlement of the people from the place since they were afraid of another landslide in the near future.

Mr Botwe in response assured the community that everything possible would be done to relocate them in order to avoid another disaster. Mr Kwabena Agyepong, former press secretary of the president and a member of the NPP campaign team, was also in the village on behalf of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo to console the family. The District Chief Executive for Akuapem North, Mr Edward Adu Aboagye, who accompanied Mr Botwe, assured the family that the assembly would donate relief items and foodstuffs to them next week and urged them to remain calm.
