Dakpema donates to Tamale Central Hospital

Tamale, Dec. 22, GNA – The Dakpema, Naa Dawuni Mohammed Alhassan, ha= s donated 12 wheel chairs worth about GHc 20,000.00 to the Tamale Central Hospital. He said the donation was in recognition of the quality health care and the special attention doctors and nurses in the hospital render to patients= .. Naa Dawuni Mohammed Alhassan pledged to continue to contribute to the progress of the town by initiating projects in water and sanitation to reduce the incidence of malaria and water borne diseases. Dr Patrick Twumasi, the Northern Regional Director of Health Services, commended the Dakpema for the donation.

He expressed worry about the number of maternal deaths in the region and said for this year alone 81 maternal deaths where recorded. Dr Twumasi said these deaths could have been avoided if the pregnant women were allowed to visit the hospital and appealed to the Dakpema and hi= s elders to encourage men to let their wives attend hospital regularly when they are pregnant. Dr. Twumasi said significant progress had been made in the eradication of guinea worm in the region and that so far only two cases had been recorded this year.
