Daily Graphic

The Graphic reports in a front page story that the Heads of State of the three countries contributing troops to the ECOWAS Monitoring Group (ECOMOG) in Sierra Leone, have been mandated to map out strategies against countries aiding and abetting war crimes in the West African sub-region. The paper says the Foreign Ministers of Nigeria, Ghana and Guinea are likely to meet in the Nigerian capital, Abuja, within the next two days to consider the issue and also develop an appropriate military and political strategy to bring the civil war in sierra Leone to a quick end. The respective Presidents of the three countries, General Abdulsalami Abubacar, Flt-Lt Jerry Rawlings and General Lansana Conte, who met in Conakry, Guinea, at the weekend, condemned countries supporting the combined forces of the rebel Revolutionary United Front (RUF) and the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (AFRC) insurgency and called for the limitation of a structured action to curtail the activities of the rebels and their supporters.
