The Graphic in a front page story, reports on the performance of Ashanti Goldfields Company Limited (AGC)on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). The paper says the shares of Ashanti Goldfields Company posted the strongest performance among the precious metal companies listed on the New York Stock Exchange at the end of the 1998 financial year. AGC gained 25 per cent in price appreciation to close at 9.38 dollars at the end of December, 1998, despite gold price closing at 288 dollars per ounce. The paper says available statistics released by the Precious Minerals weekly, a specialised journal on metals in New York, said the gains of AGC were based on a review of 123 precious metal companies listed on the NYSE.
