Daily Graphic

In a front page story, headlined: “Sunyani firms boycott lectures on VAT”, the Graphic reports that business establisments qualified to collect the Value Added Tax (VAT) in the Sunyani District, are boycotting lectures on the new tax system specially designed to educate them on the mechanisms and operations of the new tax regime.

According to the paper, in spite of written invitations and personal reminders from VAT officials in the Brong Ahafo Region to the businessmen, attendance at the lectures has been very disappointing.

It says the situation has raised doubts as to preparedness of the businessmen to collect the VAT when it becomes operational later in the year.

The Graphic says only five persons attended the first lecture our of the expected 50 hardware dealers, while only one out of the 40 supermarket managers invited, attended the second lecture. GRI
