Tolon (N/R), Aug.17, GNA- Women group leaders in the Tolon-Kumbungu District have urged Dagombas to foster peace and unity in their political activities.
“In Parliament, we see members from both sides of the House disagreeing on issues but we do not see them fighting, and we urge Dagbombas to emulate them”, the women said.
The made the call at the end of a two-day workshop on conflict resolution and peace-building, which was organised for women leaders and representatives of political parties at Tolon in the Tolon-Kumbungu District on Sunday.
The women were taken through topics such as: “Conflict analysis, types of conflicts, effects of conflicts and the response to conflicts” The Christian Council of Ghana and Action Aid Ghana, a British NGO, organised the forum to sensitise the women in the district to develop the culture of non-violence and work for peace, free and fair elections in December.
The participants suggested ways of transforming the conflict situation in Dagbon and said, “we are always afraid and the conflict is always on our minds and would have wished that Dagombas come together in unity”. They appealed to the people to bury their differences and personal interests and come together to develop Dagbon, adding, “we must learn to resolve any conflict through dialogue instead of solving differences either at the police stations or in the courts”.
“We have our cultural and traditional values and we must learn to maintain and respect these values”, they said.
