Daasebre Oti Boateng faces destoolment over festival rituals

The Omanhene of the New Juaben Traditional Area Daasebre Oti Boateng faces possible destoolment for a breach of customary procedure.

Daasebre Oti Boateng on Friday performed the rituals to usher in the Akwantukese Festival but the rite was performed in the Akwadum River instead of River Suhyen.

The change in venue was as a result of an order from the Regional Minister Victor Smith for Daasebre Oti Boateng not to enter the Suhyen Township because of security issues.

The Suhyenhene had vowed to prevent Daasebre Oti Boateng from performing the Akwantukese Festival rites in the Suhyen River.

Okogyeman Ankoma Basapon’s contention is that Daasebre Oti Boateng has refused to recognize Suhyen as a member of the New Juaben Tradition Council contrary to a court’s order for him to do so.

Speaking to XYZ News, Okogyeman Ankoma Basapon said Daasebre Oti Boateng has breached tradition in performing the rite at a different place.

“He has breached the customary law and I leave that in the hands of his family and the kingmakers of New Juaben to decide on that.

“The kingmakers can use that as a destoolment charge against him. He should have postponed the whole thing so that we reconcile the grievances between us…it is a customary offence which can lead to destoolment” Okogyeman Ankoma Basapon said.
