Daasebre Gyamena’s family angered by ‘twisted’ media reports

The family of late highlife artiste, Daasebre Gyamena has expressed displeasure about reports in the media which suggest that it rejected attempts to bury the singer in line with Islamic tradition.

Reports had it that the family took a decision not to bury him in line with Islamic tradition because he was a royal from the New Juaben Traditional Area.

But spokesperson for the family, Opanin Owusu Boakye in an interview on Peace FM’s Entertainment review, Saturday said the reports are false and ought to be disregarded.

He stated that the family met with the Chief Imam and informed him about the need to hold on with the burial of Daasebre Gyamena till the family meets.

“Chief Imam was here and we had an interaction with him that the Omanhene and some members of the family have not been informed about his [Daasebre Gyamena] departure so it will not be so good to bury him right away. Chief Imam understood that and said they will be fine with whatever decision the family arrives at. So I don’t understand why such reports are making headlines. Some even say we want to make money out of it. What is all this? It’s not fair,” he fumed.

“We’ve all agreed to meet on Monday 4pm to finalise plans. Chief Imam will join us but people are spreading falsehood. Why the disgrace? I don’t like that,” he noted.

Daasebre Gyamena, born Abubakar Siddiq lost his mother when he was five. He was christened Kojo Gyamena but later added ‘Daasebre’ to show he was from a royal home. He later decided to stick to Islam.

Daasebre Gyamena, 45, passed on last Friday after battling with an illness.

Papa Loggy, Manager of Daasebre Gyamena, confirmed news of the artiste’s demise on Daybreak Hitz. According to him, Daasebre had not been well for some time now.
