The Interior Minister-designate, Ambrose Dery, has by an Executive Instrument imposed a curfew on Kpatinga and its environs in the Northern Region of Ghana. The curfew begins on Friday, January 27 from 1200am to 4:00am each day.
The decision was taken on the advice of the Northern Regional Security Council. A total ban has also been put on arms and ammunition. As a result, persons carrying those banned weapons will be arrested and prosecuted.
“Government continues to express its appreciation to the chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth and people of the area [and urge them] to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them and to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace,” a statement issued by Mr Dery said.
Meanwhile, curfews in Bimbilla, Alavanyo and Nkonya townships have been renewed.
By the Executive Instrument, the curfew in Bimbilla will be from 10:00pm to 4:00am each day from Friday.
Alavanyo and Nkonya’s will be between 11:00pm and 5:00am each day. A total ban has also been placed on the carrying of arms and ammunitions in the towns under curfew. “Any persons found with arms or ammunitions will be arrested and prosecuted.”
