Curfew at Bawku, Gushiegu renewed

Accra, Nov. 3, GNA – The Ministry of the Interior has renewed the curfew imposed on the Bawku Municipality and Gushiegu township and their immediate environs for another week with effect from Monday, November 3. A statement signed by the Minister, Dr. Kwame Addo-Kufuor, said the action was on the advice of the Upper East and Northern Regional Security Councils (REGSECs).

The curfew hours remain unchanged at 12 midnight to 0400 hours for Bawku and 2200 hours to 0400 hours for Gushiegu. The statement said: “The government wishes to commend the people of both areas for the sustained peace and hopes that they will continue to put in their maximum efforts to ensure that peace prevails in the areas. “Government will continue to give support to the National Peace Council and other civil society organisations in their efforts to bring lasting peace to the areas.”

Meanwhile, Government has reiterated that the ban on all persons in the Bawku Municipal Area, Zabugu, Binduri, Pusiga and Zoosi townships and their environs and Gushiegu township and its environs from carrying arms, ammunitions or any offensive weapon still remains in force, and any person found with any arms or ammunition would be arrested and prosecuted.
