Cuban doctors commended for devotion to duty

Saltpond (C/R), Sept. 11, GNA – Two Cuban doctors on contract at the Saltpond Government Hospital have been commended for their dedication and devotion to duty.

Dr Frederick Vormawor, Medical Superintendent of the hospital in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Saltpond on Tuesday said Dr Nival Shaid Martinez and Dr Grisel Sanchez Bode who were posted to the hospital on a two-year contract in February this year had endeared themselves to many patients.

He said apart from attending to patients, the expatriate doctors conducted regular weekly outreach programmes in the communities and also organised in-service training for other para-medical staff.

Dr Vormawor said the problem of attending to about 120 patients a day, which had been the headache of the hospital authorities had been completely eliminated through the good performance and devotion of the two doctors.

He said they were always ready to learn new things and their relationship with the patients and other members of staff had been excellent.

Dr Vormawor appealed to the government to extend their contract to four years to enable the surrounding communities to derive maximum benefit from their good work.
