C’tte setup to investigate Ghana Airways Crisis

A Committee has been set up by the Board of Ghana Airways to investigate the reasons surrounding the ban placed on the airline by the US Transportation Department from flying in and out of that country.

The Committee was set up following a meeting that was held by the Board of the airline to find out how they can solve the problem. The Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Roads and Transport, Ken Anku who was at the meeting disclosed this to Happy FM. According to Mr. Anku, the US Transport Department had written to the management of Ghana Airways warning them on the expired licences and some unsafe conditions of their aircrafts, but these were not heeded to.

Mr Anku said the lawyer of Ghana Airways in the US explained that he had written to the US transport Department some months back, but did not follow up on it. Mr Anku said the committee has therefore been set up to investigate how the flight left the Accra even though the US had warned them of expired licences.

Mr Anku said efforts are being made to help all passengers who are stranded as a result of the crisis to get alternative flights to reach their destinations. The airline was barred by U.S. officials on Tuesday from flying into and out of the United States during an investigation of allegations it ignored orders to ground unsafe aircraft and flew on an expired license.

The decision to suspend the airline and the circumstances that led to it are very rare, possibly unprecedented, according to the U.S Transportation Department.
