CSOs urged to show competence

Bosuso (E/R), Oct. 21, GNA – Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) have been urged to take active part in the development programmes of their communities to improve the conditions of living of their people.

The Fanteakwa District Technical Assistant for the Government Accountability Improves Trust (GAIT) II project of the USAID, Mr Julius Azumah, made the call at Bosuso in the Fanteakwa District of the Eastern Region on Wednesday, when he and the community facilitator of the project, Mr Issah Mahama Amadu, joined members of the Bosuso Sub-Civic Union to undertake a three-hour clean-up exercise in the town. They desilted chocked gutters and removed a heap of gabbage, which spilled to block the Bosuso-Begoro road in the town.

Mr Azumah said the (GAIT II) project was aimed at sensitising CSOs on their roles and responsibilities and bringing them on board in the democratic governance process in the country.

He asked communities to rekindle their communal spirit by embarking on affordable amenities before the government comes with assistance. The assemblyman for Bosuso, Mr Forster Osih, expressed concern at the lukewarm attitude of the environmental health staff towards checking insanity conditions in the town.

He appealed to the Fanteakwa District Assembly to provide a bulldozer to remove the mountain-like refuse dump in the town to enable the community fence round and regulate dumping of refuse.

The Chairman of the Bosuso Sub-Civic Union, Mr Goddard Tamakloe, said the union had resolved to undertake monthly clean-up exercise to instil good sanitation habit among the residents.

He appealed to the District Assembly to supply them with sanitary equipment to undertake the exercise periodically.
