The Food and Drugs Authority, (FDA), has allayed fears that some miscreants can smuggle fake drugs into the country in the wake of the fire that destroyed the Central Medical Stores.
The Coalition of NGO’s in health first raised the concerns after the facility in Tema with over 237 million cedis worth of medical supplies was lost in the fire outbreak.
But the FDA has stated that it has stepped up efforts to check the influx of fake drugs in Ghana.
Head of drug enforcement at the FDA, Thomas Amedzro speaking on the Morning Starr Wednesday told host Kafui Dey that his outfit will soon form a standing committee as part of measures to remove fake drugs from the Ghanaian Market.
“We as an organization mandated to check the influx of fake drugs are always up to the task…we are even strengthening our efforts at the points of entry as well as the frontiers, those places that are not legally mandated for drugs to pass through,” Amedzro said.
He added that the Ministry of Health has, however, put in place measures to deal with any form of drug shortage that is likely to hit the country.
