CSIR battles MP over land ownership

The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is battling the National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East Constituency, over ownership of a parcel of land at Frafraha in the Greater Accra region.

The Council says it wants to erect a structure on the land to house various projects, including a World Bank funded research into guinea fowl production.

But that plan is being hampered by Nasser Mahama Toure – the Member of Parliament (MP).

The Council claims the MP has recruited land guards to prevent them from accessing their land.

This is despite an Accra High Court ruled last year that CSIR is the rightful owner of the land.

They have petitioned Parliament, the National Security, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and other bodies to address their concerns.

“Do we sacrifice the destiny of 24 million people just because of a single individual? We are appealing to well-meaning people, who have the authority and power, to shut this man down and get him to comply with the law”, said an official of the Council.
