Criminals ‘have gotten into the Police Service’

Director General of Police Administration Commissioner of Police Rose Bio Atinga says “some criminals” may have found their way into the Police Service and it is time they were made to face the full rigours of the law.

This comes following a Story of the Week report by TV3’s Bridget Otoo concerning police activities at barriers in the night.

The report aired on You and the Police on Friday, November 15, 2013 showed gross bribery at some major barriers in Accra.

Police officers stationed at the barriers harass drivers by extorting monies from them, the report revealed.

“Some of us are not like that. It is individual greedy attitude,” COP Atinga said.

“It appears some criminals have gotten into the Police Service and we will let them face the full rigours of the law,” she added.

The Service is seen as the most corrupt institution in the country though that has been denied many times by top officers.
