Crime Prevention, My Focus – Ag. IGP

Barely a week after assuming office, the Ag. Inspector General of Police Mrs. Elizabeth Mills-Robertson has assured the generality of the Ghanaian public that crime prevention shall be her focus. Mrs. Robertson made the pledge when she delivered her maiden address to personnel of the Police Headquarters formation, Accra including the Criminal Investigation and the Communication departments, at the forecourt of the Police Headquarters on Wednesday.

At the short but impressive ceremony, the Ag.IGP said that of all the functions of the Police Service, crime prevention takes precedence, adding that ‘this shall be my over-arching focus’.

Mrs. Robertson touched on the need to harness all the human resources available to the service to effectively and efficiently combat crime. Other measures she said, which will be put in place to improve upon the crime prevention function of the Police is community policing.

The Ag. IGP emphasized the need to strengthen Community Policing, so as to encourage the public to partner the police in crime prevention and problem solving.

Mrs. Robertson also called on her officers to uphold the tools of supervision and discipline for maximum performance. She pledged her administration’s commitment to confronting head-on the problems of accommodation and welfare. The Ag. IGP called for a concerted effort of all policemen and women in an effort to improve the image of the Police Service.

The ceremony was attended by the top hierarchy of the Police Administration including the Headquarters Management and Advisory Board (HEMAB).
