Crime in Accra has reduced – DSP Tettey

The number of criminal activities in Accra has reduced compared to last year, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Freeman Tettey, Greater Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer said on Friday.

DSP Tettey said in the past, Accra registered a lot of robbery and other serious crimes almost every week but now a week would pass without any incident, giving credence to the fact that crime had reduced in the Region.

DSP Tettey who disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said robbery would be there but the numbers had reduced drastically and the police were on top in addressing the situation.

He said the Police had put in place measures over the years and were intensifying patrols both day and night, including vehicular as well as foot patrols to ensure peace all the time.

DSP Tettey urged the public to divulge timely information to the police to assist arrest criminals.

He said the Accra Regional Police Headquarters had organized a public forum prior to the general election in all its divisions in Accra as part of its mandate to sensitize the public to adhere to general rules ahead of the December polls.

DSP Tettey said the Police had also made arrangements and deployed personnel to the 2,355 polling stations in Accra to ensure peace and security ahead of the December polls.

“The police force also put in place patrol and standby teams for reinforcement against any violence that would erupt during and after the Presidential and Parliamentary elections”, he added and urged the public to avail themselves to the police emergency numbers (18555, 191) and other security or personal safety measures to assist the service discharge its duties effectively.
