Credit Unions

At Koforidua, in the Eastern Region, the Co-operative Credit Union has held its end of year meeting. Addressing the meeting, the New Juabeng Municipa Co-operative Officer, Mrs, Sara Akoto Fosu, urged the members to intensify their educatin campaign to spread the Credit union concept. She reminded Ghanaians about the opportunities that credit unions provide for savings which are not available at banks. Mrs Fosu said with the creation of an enabling environment by the government, credit Unions can stimula p model unions to follow a more market-oriented business approach in their operations. It is expected that tehy will significantly imporve the performance of these unions. Mr. Boateng said since the union broke away from the New Tafo Saint Francis Credit Union last May, it has ben performing creditably and asked the members to honour their obligations. Mr Boateng said during thieir one yeary operation, the members mobilised nearly twenty-one million cedis as capital and made a net profit of about 700 tho
