Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has called for strict internal discipline and a renewed sense of purpose within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as it embarks on key reforms aimed at reviving its political fortunes.
Addressing delegates at the party’s National Delegates Conference held at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on Saturday, July 19, Dr. Bawumia urged party leadership to take bold steps to restore unity and public confidence.
“To the leadership of the party, I ask that you be firm and crack the whip so that discipline is maintained within our ranks,” he stated.
Dr. Bawumia, who served as Vice President from 2017 to 2024, stressed the importance of humility, accountability, and collective responsibility in the party’s journey back to political relevance.
“There should be discipline, humility, lessons learnt, and the pursuit of a common good for Ghana that we can become the refreshed party we desire,” he said.
The former Vice President’s remarks come at a critical time for the NPP, as it seeks to regroup and reconnect with voters following its recent electoral defeat.
He further urged members to prioritise national interest over personal ambition or partisan gain, especially during the reform process.
“In all our decisions and our actions towards the reform process, let us be guided by the rule of what is in the best interest of Ghana,” Dr. Bawumia advised.
