Accra, May 22, GNA – The Convention Peoples Party (CPP) has expressed condolences to the bereaved families, friends, and sympathizers of the Catholic Church over the loss of 35 members of the Abuakwa Parish who perished in an accident a week ago.
The CPP observed that the utter disregard for traffic regulations by drivers had been the major cause of fatal accidents in the country, causing the nation to lose valuable lives and stressed the need for drivers to respect road regulations to bring sanity on the roads. A statement signed by Dr Edmund N. Delle, National Chairman of the CPP, said 93the authorities should deal with reckless drivers, who do not obey road signs to serve as a deterrent to others to reduce the carnage on the roads because many Ghanaians are perishing through motor accidents”.
It said the Party was uncomfortable with the situation on the highways, which had become death traps, claiming many lives through accidents.
The statement said the Party was, therefore, calling on the National Raod Safety Commission, Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) and all stakeholders to increase vigorously the campaign against motor accidents.
It also asked the media to sensitize the public on the need to be more careful and vigilant on the road by incorporating a road accidents related programme into their various programmes to educate the public.
