CPP pays tribute to Nkrumah

THE Convention People’s Party (CPP) has paid glowing tribute to the memory of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, founder of the party and first president of Ghana, for his vision in national development and also in laying the foundation of continental African unity.

“The ratification of the constitutive action by African States to pave the way for the formation of the African Union to promote rapid development of the continent is a testimony to the foresight and vision of Dr Nkrumah’s policy of Panafricanism,” the CPP stated.

The commendation was contained in a statement issued by the party and signed by its General Secretary, Dr Nii Noi Dowuna to mark the 92nd anniversary of the late leader of the country and founder of the party, which fell on September 21, 20001.

According to the CPP, “ the rapid development projects achieved for the country within the short span of his administration will go down in African history as one of the most remarkable periods in post independence achievements”.

“The CPP is keenly anxious of the fact that the material basis which can sustain our independence can only be provided by mobilising the resources of the state to provide the basic social services to benefit the people. Consistent with this, we shall do everything within our power to pursue policies which would lead to the total realisation of their creative intellect”, it stressed.

“It is reassuring that the Osagyefo’s 92nd birthday is being observed at a time when the Nkrumah political family and other progressive parties are engaged in talks aimed at building a formidable united front to win power in 2004. We are confident that the people will rally behind this agenda to ensure victory that promotes a sustainable national reconciliation and social harmony, ” the CPP said.
