Accra, Sept. 8, GNA – Mr William Dowokpor, parliamentary candidate of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) for Ayawaso West Wuogon in Accra, on Monday called for self-determination, social justice and Pan-Africanism in order to achieve economic success in the country. “Contrary to the centre-right and/or property-owning democracy and in contrast to social democracy, all of which sometimes sound like Greek to many fellow Ghanaians, the CPP, imbued with the ability to take Ghana to the promised land, has developed its own home grown tested ideology called “Nkrumaism” standing firmly on the three bulwark pillars of self determination, social justice and Pan Africanism,” he said.
Mr Doworkpor was speaking at the first general meeting of the CPP Students Charter of the University of Ghana under the theme, “Determining Your Own Future, Investing in Visionary Leadership”. He said without economic independence the country would not be free even after 100 years of political independence from our colonial masters.
“Self determination calls on you and me to fight for economic independence. The founder of our party’s call for us to show that the Blackman is capable of managing his own affairs is most relevant today and students must make it real.”
Mr Dowokpor said it was time for the country to begin the process of re-envisioning Ghana from third world to first world. “The second pillar of social justice requires that we bridge the gap between the rich and the poor, the haves and the have not, urban and rural, north and south.
“Everyday we hear our National Health Insurance Scheme is the most pro-poor in the world but I beg to differ because social justice under a CPP administration would not permit anyone with NHIS card to go to hospital and spend the whole day there while those with cash in hand come and are looked after in half an hour and they are gone.” Mr Dowokpor called for social justice in order to promote quality education.
“Nkrumah’s vision of Pan Africanism has found expression in the New Partnership for Africa’s Development and the Africa Peer Review Mechanism.” Mr Dowokpor also called on the electorate to vote the CPP into power since it was the only party that could unite and heal the country’s wounds.
