Kumasi, May 4, GNA – A parliamentary candidate of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) has described as erroneous the impression that the party was dominated by old people.
Mr Kwame Appiah Boateng, the CPP parliamentary candidate for the newly created Nhyiaeso constituency, who debunked this notion, said the party was made up of very dynamic youth.
He was launching his campaign for the 2004 Elections at Fankyenebra, a suburb of Kumasi on Monday.
Mr Boateng, 42, a financial and management consultant based in the US and Ghana, was recently elected unopposed as the CPP’s parliamentary candidate for Nhyiaeso.
He said the founder of the party, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah derived his strength and power from the youth after breaking away from the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC) which he described as full of old men at the time.
Mr Boateng, therefore, asked Ghanaians to ignore the cheap propaganda being peddled against the CPP and to rally behind it solidly, since the CPP was made up of the youth and also a party with good programmes towards the progress of the youth.
He advised Ghanaians to vote people who can perform well to parliament and stop voting on party lines and said many communities continued to be deprived because the constituents voted on party lines. Mr Boateng appealed to those who broke away from the CPP to join other parties or formed splinter parties to return to the fold of the CPP describing it as their roots and the real Nkrumaist party.
