CPP has the men, says Dr Delle

Kumasi, Oct. 19, GNA – Dr Edmund Delle, National Chairman of the CPP, said on Friday that the number and calibre of people who are seeking the presidential candidacy of the party showed that the party has the men who are capable of running the affairs of the nation efficiently. He said CPP should no longer be seen as a party of old men but a united party capable of winning the 2008 elections.

Speaking at the Ashanti Regional delegates’ congress of the party in Kumasi, Dr Delle appealed to the youth to demonstrate that they had the capabilities to continue the struggle to win back power to complete the unfinished development agenda of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah. He said unity of purpose was very important and that the party should be seen as supreme.

Dr Delle said the CPP was not dead as was being speculated by its detractors and urged party members to show to the world that the party was growing strong and preparing adequately to wrestle power from the NPP.

The CPP chairman said while the party was prepared to collaborate with other political parties, it would not mortgage its sovereignty to any other party. “The party stands on its own and has its own ideology”. He appealed to the delegates to elect people who had good character, committed to the ideals of the party, care for the party and the nation as well as competent enough to lead the nation to its socio-economic freedom.

Dr Delle commended the foot soldiers of the party for their commitment, saying efforts to destroy the party had failed due to the resilience of the members.

Mr Osei Tutu Bonsu, Ashanti Regional chairman of the party, urged the constituency executives to rededicate themselves and revive the party structures at their local levels in order to win more supporters. Present at the congress were Professor Agyeman Badu Akosah, Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, Dr Kwaku Osafo and Dr Fred Asante Akuffo, all presidential aspirants of the party.
