CPP hails settlement of Kwahu chieftaincy dispute

Nkawkaw, Oct 15, GNA – The Convention People’s Party (CPP) on Friday welcomed the peaceful settlement of the nine-year chieftaincy dispute between Nana Yeboah Afari Obuagyan 11, the Obohene, and the Kwahu Traditional Council. Mr Kwaku Ameyaw, the Eastern Regional Vice Chairman of the CPP, commended the Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng the II, Kwahu Omanhene, Nana Yeboah Afari Obuagyan 11, the Obohene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu 11, the Asantehene, Nana Wiafe Akenten the Offinsohene, for contributing to the settling of the dispute.

In an interview with the GNA, Mr Ameyaw urged the two factions in the dispute to put the past behind them and to promote the development of the area.

He said the CPP would also work towards enhancing the development of the traditional area.

The dispute followed the unilateral declaration of a separate paramountcy for the Nifa Division by the Nana Obuagyan and went to the courts and the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs. It was eventually withdrawn for settlement through the intervention of the Otumfuo Osei Tutu and Nana Wiafe Akenten. As part of the settlement, Nana Obuagyan rendered apology to the Kwaku Traditional Council, pacified it with 12 rams and 12 cartons of schnapps, agreed to bury his successor installed during the dispute and to offer 100 million cedis to help defray the cost of the dispute incurred by the council.
