CPP calls for calm in Northern Region

Tamale, Dec. 9, GNA – Mr Albert Atutiga, a leading Member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) on Thursday appealed for calm in the Tamale Metropolis and other parts of the region so that the state of the emergency and curfew would not be re-imposed.

Mr Atutiga said the general elections were conducted in the region orderly and peacefully but regretted that some events after the elections were disturbing, which did not speak well of the region. Mr Atutiga told the GNA in Tamale that some people, particularly the youths belonging to the NPP and the NDC were causing unnecessary tension in the region and called on their leadership to call them to order.

“The people of Tamale should know that there is no loser in elections, the most important thing is that we are all Ghanaians and it will not speak good of us if we hide under politics and kill ourselves,” he said.

“We should support any one who wins the elections even if the person is not from the party of your choice and vote him out in the next elections.” he added.

Mr Atutiga said the way Ghanaians endured for the past four years to choose another leader was a boost in the democratic dispensation and called on all Ghanaians not to do anything that would dint the country’s image.

Mr Atutiga, who is also the chairman of the Tamale Youth Association (TYA) commended officials of the EC, the security agencies operating in the region for their sense of maturity in maintaining peace, before, during and after the elections. He urged the security forces not to relax their daily patrols both at night and during the day to deter potential troublemakers to ensure that there was calm in the Metropolis and the region.
