Accra, March 30, GNA – The Convention Peoples Party (CPP) on Tuesday advised the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), to focus on the real business of running government, since the people of Ghana want to see change.
Mr William Dowokpor, Communications Director of CPP, at a press conference in Accra said, the NDC should stop the media hype and image projections, saying, “It is easy to use propaganda to bring down a government but it takes more than propaganda to run a government.” He said the CPP had seen the negative developments of threats of attacks, kidnappings and killings, fire outbreaks and condemns in the strongest possible terms the never ending bloody clashes between the NDC and NPP supporters.
The CPP therefore called on President John Evans Atta-Mills to use his executive powers to stop the on-going disturbing trends in the country. Mr Dowokpor, calling the clashes between the NPP and NDC supporters as condoned lawlessness, said “The CPP is a key stakeholder in the destiny of our country. We therefore demand the leadership of the NDC and NPP to take urgent steps to stop their supporters from making the country ungovernable.” He described as unacceptable the politicisation of the death of Alhaji Issah Mobilla, a former Northern Regional Chairman of the party and said the NDC when in opposition made the case a major campaign issue but after 13 months in government the matter was now before court. Mr Dowokpor urged the NDC to desist from making undue political capital out of the CPP’s grief.
He described as unfortunate, the seizure of public places of convenience and the illegal lock-outs of statutory State institutions by NDC party activists, as a way of protesting against the unemployment situation in the country.
“The NDC youth may exercise their constitutional rights to demonstrate but it is criminal to prevent an officer of State from doing his work because your party is in power,” he added.
Mr Dowokpor urged Ghanaians to vote for the CPP in election 2012 to see real change, saying, “After examining how this country has been governed for the past 17 years by the NDC and NPP, we have no choice but to settle on the logical conclusion that NDC and NPP, the value is the same.”
