COVEAT presents 10 laptop computers to Takoradi Poly

Takoradi, Oct. 7, GNA – The Council for Vocational and Technical Education and Training (COVEAT) on Wednesday presented 10 Toshiba laptop computers donated by the Aktech Supplies and Logistics to the Takoradi Polytechnic.

Dr. Baffour Awuah, a former director of COVEAT made the presentation on behalf of the Minister of Education after Nii Kemetey Tetteh, Administrator of Aktech Supplies and Logistics, handed the laptops over to him.

He used the occasion to announce that government had secured a $4.7 million facility from the World Bank to support the training of skilled manpower for the country’s oil and gas industry in educational institutions including the Regional Maritime Academy, Kikam Technical Institute and the Takoradi Polytechnic.

Dr. Awuah said only about 20 per cent of oil rig workers were Ghanaians and it was now government policy to reverse the trend through training of Ghanaians to enable them to take advantage of the local content of the industry.

Reverend John Frank Eshun, Vice Rector of the Polytechnic, thanked the Aktech Supplies and Logistics, government and the Ministry of Education for providing the Polytechnic with the laptops for its petrochemical and hydraulics technicians training programme.

Nii Tetteh said his company was committed to helping to equip laboratories of the universities, polytechnics and technical schools to enhance teaching and learning.
