Courts must hear all no matter how… – Nana Ato Dadzie

Nana Ato Dadzie, a member of the NDC legal team in the on-going trial challenging the 2012 election results has stated that he personally believes that the “courts should be open” to all who have grievances to be heard, no matter how senseless and illogical the case may be.

Alluding to the dismissed ‘Amicus Curiae’ brief filed by Lawyer Benoni Tony Amekudze, Nana Ato Dadzie argued on Citi FMs ‘Big Issues’: “one of the things that I personally believe in is that the court should be open. When I say the court should be open, I mean that the court should be there for anybody who believes that he/she has a case of any type to go there to make his presentation however nonsensical, or foolish it is”.

According to him, it would be wrong to shut-out anyone from being heard because the world has been changed by people who were thought to have rather “radical or useless ideas”.

“There was a time when everybody thought that the world was flat and for those who attempted to say or thought that the world was round, were hanged,” the former Chief of Staff clarified.

Nana Ato Dadzie’s comments come on the back of a dismissed ‘Amicus Curiae brief’ filed by lawyer Benoni Tony Amekudze in order to be joined to the on-going election petition trial in the Supreme Court.

Lawyer Benoni Tony Amekudze, who introduced himself as a friend of the court argued that he wanted to draw the attention of the court to some relevant provisions of the law that were being violated.

He insisted that if given the opportunity, he would demonstrate to the court whether or not a sitting President should be sued or joined in a suit as a respondent and that he wanted to draw the Supreme Court’s attention to the fact that it was breaking the law.

However, the Nana Ato Dadzie maintained that the fact that Lawyer Amekudze’s attempt to join the case was dismissed, it is still important to take a critical look at the issue raised.

“We should be open to other ideas. They may sound nonsensical, but great ideas can come out of them,” he added.
