Court warns drivers against exorbitant fares

Twifo Praso (C/R), April 28, GNA- The Twifo-Hemang-Lower-Denkyira District magistrate court has warned that it would in future impose a heavier sentence on any driver brought before him for charging above stipulated fares.

The court presided over by Mr. Joseph Blay gave the warning when he sentenced Robert Sam, a driver, to a fine of 400,000 cedis for charging above the stipulated fare from Twifo-Praso to Twifo-Hemang. Sam, who pleaded guilty, will go to prison for two months if he fails to pay the fine.

Chief Inspector Henry Tandoh told the court that on April 23, Sam charged one Mr Edu Arhin, who was travelling from Praso to Hemang 3,000 cedis instead of 2,500 cedis. 28 April 05
