Accra, Nov. 24 GNA – The Adjabeng court on Monday sentenced six traders to various prison terms and fines for defying the orders of the Metropolitan District Chief Executive, Mr. Solomon Ofei Darko to remove their wares from the entrance of the Accra National Fire Service (GNFS) at Makola.
The traders, Mr. Kwadjoe Asamoah,. Kobina Dwamena and. Kwesi Binney, were sentenced to one month imprisonment each, while Zenobia Mensah, Adjeley Adjei and Nii Yartey were fined six million cedis each or three months imprisonment.
Prosecuting, Mr. Princeston Commodore, told the court that the Accra Metropolitan Assembly organised a clean-up exercise to clear the traders from the streets of Accra.
He said on Saturday Nov. 22, the accused persons were found obstructing the entrance of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) with their wares displayed on the street.
Mr. Comodore said, the MDCE, who participated in the exercise went to the traders to talk to them to remove their wares displayed along the entrance of the GNFS else they would face arrest and prosecution.
He said the accused persons ignored the MDCE’s order and were arrested and charged with the offence.
Bench warrant was issued for the arrest of Vivian Gbedema for failing to appear in court.
