A Kumasi Circuit Court has sentenced a member of a robbery gang to 35 years imprisonment in hard labour.
Prince Okai Tetteh, 21, together with three others, attacked and robbed a Yutong bus driver of his cash, camera and cellular phone totaling GH¢696.00.
Price Tetteh was charged with conspiracy and robbery and pleaded not guilty.
His accomplices, Romeo and Azito and a third person, whose name was not given, are on the run.
Police Chief Inspector Archibald Kwesi Fandoh told the court presided over by Justice Emmanuel Amo-Yartey that the crime was committed on July 16, last year.
The victim, Peter Fosu, had arrived in Kumasi from Accra at about 0100 hours, parked his bus at Brisco and walked to the Asafo Neoplan Station – some few metres away.
The prosecution said on reaching a spot near the Asafo Traffic Light intersection, Tetteh and his colleagues attacked him with cutlasses and ordered him to surrender his cash and other valuables.
Fearing for his life, he released the cash and items and escaped to the station and with the support of other drivers and their mates went on a manhunt for the robbers.
That paid off as the gang was spotted and Tetteh was arrested and handed over to the Zongo Police but the others bolted with the booty.
The convict in his caution statement confessed to the crime.**
