Court sends man to jail for 12 years for defilement

Sunyani, Sept 1, GNA – The Sunyani Circuit court on Monday sentenced Kwabena Oduro, a 21-year-old unemployed, to 12 years imprisonment for defiling a nine-year-old pupil at Kenten, near Techiman.

He pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement and was convicted and sentenced accordingly.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Alex Yartey Tawiah, the prosecutor, told the court that the accused and the victim lived in the same vicinity at Kenten.

On August 21 Oduro invited the victim into his room and forcibly had sex with her, after which he warned her not to tell anybody. ASP Tawiah said the victim, who spent five days in hospital, informed her parents and Oduro was arrested.
