Court reviews bail condition for former GREDA boss

The Financial Division of the Fast Track High Court, on Tuesday reviewed the bail condition imposed on the former GREDA boss, Dr Alexander Kofi Tweneboah, charged with SIM Box fraud.

The bail condition was reviewed from GH¢50,000 with two sureties, one to be justified, granted bail by the Magistrates’ Court to GH¢200,000 with two sureties.

At the last adjourned date, the case was transferred from the Magistrates’ court to the Fast Track High Court, Financial Division.

He was expected to also report at the Police CID Headquarters twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays.

Tweneboah has pleaded not guilty to the charge of SIM box fraud.

He was arrested at his residence at Baatsona, Manet area, on January 15, where several items, including one SIM Box with 64-slot SIM server, 4G Internet Modem, one laptop computer and a mini antenna were retrieved.

Three persons, namely, Emmanuel Kofi Essilfie, Edmond Essilfie and Kwaku Appiah, were arrested, but they denied knowledge of the gadgets, and mentioned Tweneboah as the owner of the house, and the equipment as well.

The prosecution said Tweneboah was subsequently arrested.

He said Tweneboah claimed ownership of the equipment, and admitted using them to terminate international calls illegally.

The ex-President of GREDA, is among other culprits, who are currently in police grips.

The other culprits are Ebenezer Boateng, Victor Owusu, Kwadjo Asare and Kweku Appiah,

The rest are, Alvin Habib, Francis Abbey, David Ayitsi and Daniel Nehme, a Lebanese.

The arrests were made in Koforidua, Accra, Baatsona, Kumasi, and Tema.

Some of the items retrieved from the operation included, SIM box equipment, SIM cards of the various telecommunication networks, computers, laptops, heavy duty batteries, internal antennas, ACP battery backup and internet routers.

Two of the victims are, however, on the run.
