Court restrains UE chairman of GPRTU

A Bolgatanga Circuit Court has restrained the Upper East Regional chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) in the Bawku West District from entering his office until a case before it had been determined.

The court further directed that the national secretariat of the union to immediately appoint a three-member Interim Management Committee to man the office until a date is set for the election.

The court’s order followed a suit filed by the Zebilla branch chairman of the GPRTU, Mr. Bugri Bela, against the regional chairman, Mr. Godfried Abulbire, for allegedly breaching the constitution of the union.

He is also praying the court to ban Mr. Abulbire from contesting the forthcoming Regional Executive elections of the union.

However, the court presided over by Mr. Emmanuel Kofi Sunu, dismissed the claim that Mr. Abulbire be banned from contesting the forthcoming elections.

The court, however, ordered that to maintain peace, Mr. Abulbire be restrained from going to the office until the matter was resolved
